Market cap, explained. What the whole company is worth on the stock market.

Market capitalization is the share price multiplied by the number of shares. It is the price tag the market puts on the entire company.

Share price × Shares outstanding

$50 a share × 2 billion shares → $100 billion market cap.

Right now:

$NVDA $5.65T

$AAPL $4.87T

$MSFT $3.84T

$AMZN $2.71T

$META $1.85T

$JPM $884B

How to read it:

• Mega cap: $200B and up. Large cap: $10B–$200B.

• Mid cap: $2B–$10B. Small cap: $300M–$2B.

• A $10 stock is not “cheaper” than a $500 stock. Share count matters.

Watch out: Share price alone tells you nothing about size. Always look at market cap.
